Fort McMurray Today

Fort McMurray is a vibrant, thriving community in northern Alberta. Though the wildfires of 2016 had a profound impact on the city, now our residents are rebuilding stronger than ever. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo consists of the city and ten neighbourhoods. In addition, Fort Mac is technically unincorporated. This makes it the largest unincorporated “city” in Alberta!

Tourism

Fort McMurray Airport – Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) has a goal to be Canada’s premier regional airport. To reach this goal, YMM has made significant changes to services. For example, they have built a larger airport terminal building. They also deliver a higher quality of customer service through “TEam YMM.” ALso, they’re growing the capacity to handle more passenger service and air cargo every year. Finally, the airport provides general and corporate aviation services. Fort McMurray Tourism – The Aurora Borealis, or northern lights, are beautiful, changing displays of light that appear at night. Plus, if your dream is to snag a trophy walleye or land a Northern Alberta laker, fishing Alberta’s north is sure to get you hooked. These are just some of our city’s tourist attractions. The Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre – Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, Sawridge Inn is your full service destination for luxurious and convenient Fort McMurray accommodations. The hotel is located just off highway 63 and only 2 miles from the Fort McMurray Regional Airport. Enjoy all the comforts of home with the first class amenities of Sawridge Inn.
