Well Fort McMurray, Fall 2021 is here and we all know this can be the shortest season of the four seasons in a year! If you’re not already thinking about fall home maintenance, you might want to start and get going very soon. Whether your home is a single detached, a townhome, condo or something in between maintenance is an important part of home ownership. It could be as simple as clearing off your condo’s deck and protecting your summer furniture or a longer list of outdoor and indoor maintenance jobs for your house. It’s a worthwhile exercise with the changing of every season! Plus here in Fort McMurray, if you intend to put up decorative lights for the holidays – do it sooner rather than later to save from the potential of dealing with ice or frost and having your hands feel like blocks of ice.

Enough about why you should do fall home maintenance, here are some ideas for your maintenance check list:

  • Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts.
  • Check Your Roof.
  • Drain Garden Hoses.
  • Prepare Gas-Operated Tools For Winter Storage.
  • Tune Up Your Furnace.
  • Feed and Maintain Your Lawn.
  • Prepare Your Deck.
  • Stow-Away Patio Furniture.

There are plenty of lists for fall home maintenance to be found, but it’s important to remember that seasons are a bit ‘stronger’ here in Fort McMurray and I think #6 & #7 on this list from Rona are particularly important ones for our climate and geography.

It never hurts to be proactive with your home maintenance and as a homeowner, this list from The Weather Network has a couple of interesting tips, like giving a though to home safety and checking your humidifier. This just goes to show you that there are all kinds of things to consider for fall home maintenance.

The Winter season will be here before we know it, so let’s get going!
